How to Set Up WAP Internet Data on a HTC Phone

The HTC brand of smartphone has the ability to connect to the Internet through the Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) to access mobile versions of websites and send picture messages to other phones. To use the Internet features, you will first need to set up the WAP data settings on the phone. Although many providers have their phones preprogrammed, you may need to change them if you switch providers or purchase an HTC phone through a third-party retailer.

Instructions

1. Navigate to your cellular provider's website or call its customer service line. Access the "Support" section of the website or ask for the technical support division. Find the "Access Point," "MMS" and "Wap Gateway" settings and write them down.

2. Power on the HTC phone and then press the soft key on the left side to bring up the main menu screen. Scroll down through the menu and highlight the "Settings" option. Press the square button at the center of the phone to access the settings menu.

3. Choose the "Connections" option from the settings menu. Scroll down through the new list that will appear and choose "GPRS." Highlight the "New" option and press the center button. Choose "Connects To Internet."

4. Scroll down to the "Internet" heading and choose "Change." Key in the Access Point that you wrote down earlier. Scroll down and press "Done."

5. Navigate back through the menu to the "GRPS" option. Press "New" again, and this time, choose "Connects To Wap." Choose the "MMS" option. Key in the MMS settings you wrote down earlier.

6. Return to the main menu screen and then select "Messaging." Highlight "MMS" and press the right soft key to bring up a second menu. Choose "Settings," and then choose "MMSC Settings."

7. Press "Edit" and enter in the "MMS" settings again. Scroll down to "WAP Gateway" and enter in the information you wrote down earlier.

8. Power cycle the phone by turning it off and then back on to complete setting up the WAP settings.

Tips & Warnings

• HTC phones will not be able to access every website even though they have an Internet connection because of memory constraints. Advanced features such as flash animations and instant messaging will likely not be available.

• You will not be able to access any websites or send and receive picture messages unless you have a data package through your cellular service provider.
