Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the cake batter. For most boxed cake mixes, you will need a few eggs, some vegetable or canola oil and some water (the amounts depend on the brand of cake mix). Mix together with a blender until smooth.

    • 2

Bake the cakes. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or the temperature quoted on the box instructions). Prep the round cake pan and 9 x 13-inch pan by spraying with oil or nonstick cooking spray. Sprinkle flour over the pans and shake until pans are completely covered with a light layer of flour. The light layer of flour will help the cakes to come out much easier when it's time to remove them. Bake until toothpick or cake tester is inserted into the center of the cakes and comes out clean. Cool completely.

    • 3

Form the skateboard cake. Once cooled, remove the cakes from the pans and cut the round cake in half. Place the rectangular cake in the center of the cake holder, then place half the round cake on one end and the other cake half at the other end (with the rounded section facing away from the cake). You can glue them together with frosting. Once placed together, cut a rounded shape on the upper and lower edges of the rectangular cake, thus completing the shape of the skateboard cake.

    • 4

Frost the cake. With your choice of colored frosting, frost the cakes. You may want it to be just chocolate colored, or you may consider another color, such as blue or red.

    • 5

Finish the skateboard cake. To complete the look of the skateboard cake, take 4 chocolate donut gems (the small round donuts) and place them so they look like wheels--two on the front and two on the back. Connect each of the wheels to the cake with the candy cane stick. Complete your cake with any personal sayings and top off with candles.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut a piece of cardboard and cover with aluminum foil. Place the skateboard cake on that instead of using the traditional plate or cake holder.

  • Once the skateboard cake is on the piece of aluminum foiled cardboard, do not attempt to move it around. Keep the cake in one place. Moving it can increase the chances of it falling off the cardboard or someone dropping it.
