Computers are wonderful devices in which to store our documents and photos. With the new digital technology, we can transfer photos and some documents directly to our PCs. There are often times, however, when we want to save some older photos and documents to our computers, and in order to do that, we need to scan them in. The HP Scanjet 4070 Photosmart Scanner allows us to do that easily. The scanner is simple to use, and even simpler to install. Just follow these instructions and you will be able to scan your old photos and documents in no time.

    • 1

Make sure all programs are closed on your computer.

    • 2

Insert the installation disc 1 and follow the on-screen instructions. The installation wizard will check your computer's configuration and determine if you can install with disc 1 or if you will need to insert and install with disc 2. (Mac users will need to install with disc 2.)

    • 3

Wait to see if the disc starts automatically after inserting it. If it does not, click on "Start," then "Run," and type in "D:setup.exe" (minus quotations). If your CD drive is letter "E" or "F," then you would substitute "D" in this step with "E" or "F."

    • 4

Follow all instructions in the setup wizard, and click on "Finish" when complete.

    • 5

Connect the USB cable to your computer, and then to your scanner.

    • 6

Hook up the TMA cable. This is the cable that runs out from the top of the scanner. It is to be plugged in to the center port in back of the scanner between the USB slot and the power supply port.

    • 7

Connect the power supply cord to the scanner, and then to the power supply outlet. Turn on the power and try scanning a picture to be sure it is hooked up correctly. Consult your user's manual for specific instructions on downloading images.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check system requirements before attempting to install an HP Scanjet scanner.

  • If you are having trouble installing the software with the HP Scanjet install CD, copy the CD to your computer's hard drive and install from there. This will help prevent your computer from freezing up when the CD drive is running.
