How to Remove Contact Lenses With Long Nails
Long nails make it nearly impossible to remove contact lenses in the manner that most eye doctors teach. Fortunately, with a little practice, you can adapt the classic "tip of the finger" move to the side of your finger and remove your lenses without scratching your eyes or clipping your long nails.

1
Wash your hands thoroughly. While it is always important to remove contacts with clean hands, it is even more important to clean under long nails. Long fingernails can harbor dirt and bacteria that can cause eye infections.
-
2
Dry your hands on the lint free towel. Make sure they are completely dry since removing contacts with long nails is a little harder (at first) than removing them normally. Make sure there are no threads from the towel stuck to your nails.

3
Facing a mirror, position your hands as you normally would to remove the lenses. Use the middle finger of each hand to pull your eyelid up and down, exposing the contact.

4
Sweep the side of your pointer finger across your eye gently to remove the contact. Generally, you are instructed to use the tip of the thumb and the tip of the pointer finger to lift the contact out. However, your long nails prevent this. Instead, sweep the side of the pointer gently across the eye so that the contact is forced to bow against the inside of your thumb. Your thumb should be positioned so the inside faces the bridge of your nose very gently rests against the surface of the eye. The sweeping motion of your pointer finger will cause the contact to lift off your eye.

5
Pull the contact away from your eye. At this point, your contact will be bent between the pointer finger and thumb of your dominant hand. You can now throw it away, place it in a cleaning solution or rinse it off as you wish.
