How to Build a Neopet Robot
The only way to make a robot Neopet is through the Lab Ray. Most colors are available by painting your pet with a paint brush but there are a few exceptions. Robot and Jelly pets are only available from the Lab Ray. But zapping your pet in the Secret Laboratory is no guarantee--the results are random. The Lab Ray can change your pet's color in addition to its gender, stats like strength and defense, and even its species. In order to use the Lab Ray you must have a map to the Secret Laboratory. With the map, you may zap a pet of your choice once a day. If you want a robot Neopet, use the following steps and hope for a little luck as well.

Earn lots of neopoints. There are many ways to earn neopoints while playing Neopets including playing games and selling items in your shop.

Buy or find the nine Secret Laboratory Map pieces. Some of the pieces are more expensive than others. Items selling for under 100,000 neopoints can purchased from user shops in the Marketplace. Use the Shop Wizard to search these. Items selling for over 100,000 can only be obtained at the Trading Post. This is where you will find sets of all 9 pieces available. As of this writing, complete Secret Laboratory Map sets sell for about 800,000 neopoints. Some users are willing to accept items for trade instead of neopoints. You can also find map pieces if you get lucky through random events and the game Key Quest.

Put the map pieces together. Make sure you have all nine pieces in your inventory and go to the games page and search for "Treasure Maps." The direct URL is http://www.neopets.com/games/play.phtml?game_id=78. Click on "Click to Play" and then "Laboratory" on the following page. The map pieces will now fuse together. They can never be separated again and you will not be able to sell it once you have put it together.

Go to the Lab Ray at http://www.neopets.com/lab.phtml.

Click "Yes! I want to try the ray!"

Choose the radio button under the pet you want to zap and click "Carry on with the experiment!" Your pets will be crying and begging you not to do it so be prepared.

Keep zapping your pet once a day until it finally turns into a robot. It can take a long time because the results are random so it may change species, color, gender and stats many times before becoming a robot.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't want to go to the trouble and expense of building your own Neopet robot, you can trade with another user on the Neopian Pound board under "Boards" in the main navigation menu. Post what you want and what you are offering and see if anyone wants to trade. Keep in mind that someone with a "valuable" pet like a robot will want something of equal value in return.
Buying or selling pets violates Neopets' terms and conditions so do not attempt to offer neopoints for someone's pet or your account may be frozen.
