Audio Video Interleave or "AVI" are media files designed by Microsoft for use in Windows. These files were originally a means to play video and audio in synch. Due to an outdated rendering of square pixels, these files are beginning to show their age. In addition, they do not look quite as good as the newer file formats. You can convert AVI files to other file types that are more widely supported with better rendering, such as WMA.

  1. Step 1

Click the "Open" or "Add" tab in the toolbar. In Format Factory, on the right side click the arrow button. Then select the "All to WMA" tab. In the next window, press the "Add File" or "Add Folder" button. Browse your computer for "AVI." Click the "Open" tab when you finish.

  3. Step 3

Change the output file format. Click on "WMA" on the main screen.

  4. Step 4

Start the conversion process. Format Factory: press the "Start" icon. Allok: click the "Convert" button then wait until the "Source File Opens." Apex: select the "Convert" tab. The conversion process takes approximately three minutes to complete, depending on the file size.
