Instructions
Things You'll Need
Double boiler
Kitchen thermometer
Wooden spoon
Votive cups
Wire core candle wick
Wick clips
Paraffin wax
Chocolate candle scent
Dark brown candle color
Wicking needle or thick wire, such as a piece of coat hanger
Thread a piece of wire core wick through one wick clip for each candle you're making. Set one wick clip with a wick into each metal votive cup. Make sure the wick clip is centered and that the wick is standing up straight.
2
Melt paraffin wax in a double boiler. Bring it to 199 degrees F.
3
Add candle color and mix it with a wooden spoon. For every pound of candle wax, add 1 to 2 oz. of chocolate candle scent. Stir thoroughly with a wooden spoon.
4
Pour hot candle wax into each votive cup. Fill the cups, but be careful not to overflow them. Make sure the wicks remain centered.
5
Leave the wax for an hour. After that time, you'll see a well in the center of each candle. Poke a hole in the center of each well with the wicking needle or wire.
6
Reheat your candle wax to 199 degrees F. Pour it carefully into the well of each candle. Try to fill wax to the top of each candle, but be very careful not to overflow them. If hot liquid wax gets between the cooling candle and the mold, the candle may not come out of the mold.
7
Leave the candles for another hour. If the candles still have wells in the centers, you may need to poke them and add more wax again.
8
Wait a few more hours. Then place your chocolate scented candles into the freezer. After 15 minutes, take them out. Your chocolate scented votive candles should come easily out of their molds.
Tips & Warnings
Wire core wick maintains its position in hot wax, making it a great choice for votive candle making. Wick clips hold the wire core wick in place.
Always melt wax in a double boiler. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
