Put Eyeliner on Thickly

Applying eyeliner thickly can give you a variety of looks from glamorous and edgy to simply giving your eyes a different shape. Using eyeliner to enhance your natural eye shape will open up your eyes to look bigger and brighter. Creating different looks can be easily accomplished using different colored eyeliners or even choosing between liquid and pencil eyeliner.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Liquid or pencil eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Eye shadow
  1. Step 1

Outline the shape of your top lash. You may use liquid eyeliner or pencil eyeliner. Liquid eyeliner tends to give more of a bold and glamorous look, while pencil eyeliner can be more subtle if desired. Trace your top lash with a very thin layer of eyeliner to create the shape of your eye. Press the tip of your eyeliner on your eyelid with steady pressure. Make sure not to press too hard, otherwise the eyeliner will start to smear out of the desired area. Start with the inside corner of your eye and carefully trace toward the outside corner of your eye. It's best to do this in one smooth motion to create a clean look.

  2. Step 2

Create a guideline to easily apply thicker eyeliner. Now that you have the natural shape of your eye traced, you can create a more catlike appearance by adding thicker eyeliner. Place a small dot of eyeliner toward the outside of your eye where you would like your eyeliner to lead to. Everyone's eye shape is different but there's a rule when doing this that works for almost everyone. You want the eyeliner from the outside corner of your eye to end on the same level as the crease of your eye. Now, move about two centimeters over from your crease, to the distance where your eyebrow ends and place a small dot. Place one more dot about a centimeter above your natural lash line in the middle of your eye.

  3. Step 3

Fill in the desired shape of your eyeliner. Do this by following the grid of two dots that you created. Place the tip of your eyeliner on the dot toward the outside of your eye. Create a shape moving from the outside dot to the middle dot by gradually moving downward in such a motion that will link the two dots together in one smooth swipe. Continue downward to the inside edge of your eye. Your entire top lash should now have a fluid shape right above your natural lash line. Now that you have created the shape you can fill the empty space between the shape you just created and your natural lash line with eyeliner.

  4. Step 4

Balance your thick eyeliner by adding a touch to your bottom lash. As you did in the first step, trace underneath your bottom lashes. This is to add color and balance evenly throughout your eye. Start tracing from the outside corner of your eye to only the middle of your eye. This will open up your eyes. Make sure to only add a thin layer under your eyes because too much will create an unappealing undereye shadow.

  5. Step 5

Add eyeliner to the ridges of the inside of your eye. This step isn't necessary but is a great addition if you're going for an edgy look. You can only use stick eyeliner to fill in the inside of your eye. Using liquid eyeliner may smear into your eyes and cause damage. Using one hand, hold the skin under your eye with your fingers and pull down your bottom lashes so the bottom inside ridge of your eye is pulled away from your eye. Gently use the tip of your pencil eyeliner to color in the ridge.

  6. Step 6

Finish off your thick eyeliner look. The best way to pull off thick eyeliner is to add mascara on both the top and bottom lashes. Also, applying a dark-colored eye shadow such as brown or black will finish off your look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Whenever applying eyeliner, be sure to use caution. Poking your eye may result in damage and in some cases blindness.
