Make these easy covered clothes hangers for great bridal shower, birthday or Mother's Day gifts. They are made using wooden clothes hangers purchased at your local discount store or scour your thrift stores and flea markets. These simple to make fabric-covered clothes hangers can be made quickly and easily. Recycle old textiles for a vintage and romantic look or use fun novelty print fabric that will bring out your personality.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Double the fabric with the right sides together and place on your work surface. Measure the thickness of the hanger and divide this measurement in half. Draw around the hanger adding the measurement for the thickness of the hanger and 1/4 inch for seam allowance. Pin the drawn shape together and cut through both thicknesses. Double the quilt batting and place on your work surface. Place the cut out fabric hanger shape on top of the batting and pin. Using the fabric hanger shape as your pattern, cut the quilt batting out.

  2. Step 2

Find the center top of the hanger batting shape and pin. Sew the top edge of the hanger shape through both thicknesses of the batting using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Skip a 1/4 inch at the pinned center. Turn the batting right side out and slip the hanger into the sewn batting shape, threading the hanger hook through the 1/4-inch center opening. Pin the bottom edges of the batting together on the bottom of the hanger. Hand sew the bottom edge of the batting. Repeat this procedure for the fabric hanger shape.

  3. Step 3

Measure the hanger hook and multiply this measurement by four. Cut one piece of the 5/8-inch wide satin ribbon to this length. Fold the ribbon in half matching the short ends and pin the long edges together. Top stitch the long sides together as close to the pinned edges as possible. Apply a thin coat of craft glue on the hanger hook. Thread the sewn ribbon tube over the top of the hanger hook and gather. Place a clothespin over the end of the tube to hold the ribbon in place until the glue dries. Hand stitch the bottom edge of the ribbon tube to the top of the fabric covered hanger. Cut a 12-inch piece of the 5/8-inch wide satin ribbon and tie it in a bow around the neck of the hanger hook. Trim the ribbon ends.
