Classically, IBM Netvistas come with very small hard drives. For any kind of use these days, it is advisable to replace the hard drive with one that has a much larger capacity. This process, though it may be suggested to be done by a professional, can be done by nearly anyone.

Instructions

      Remove the power cord from the back of the computer's case to prevent the chance of shocking yourself.

      Open the computer's top by removing the two mounting screws on the back of the computer with a Phillips screwdriver. Then, slide the top off by moving it backwards, then up.

      Locate the hard drive in the front of the computer case.

      Remove the hard drive from its housing by unscrewing its two mounting bolts on the side of the housing. Then, slide it out of the housing. Remove the power and motherboard plugs from the back of the drive.

      Slide the new hard drive into the housing and secure it with the two bolts you just removed. Plug the power and motherboard cables into the back of the drive.

      Replace the top of the computer and the power plug in the back of the case.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that the hard drive you purchase is an IDE hard drive, as most Netvista motherboards do not have SATA support.

  • Always use caution when working inside computers. The slightest mistake can permanently ruin hardware.
