How to Install Programs on a Computer Hard Drive

Most programs that are installed on a computer are installed to the hard drive as a default destination. When they're installed to the desktop or another folder, it's because the user has commanded the installation wizard to install it there. Some programs need to be installed on the desktop for quick access, especially those programs that fight malicious software in Safe Mode, but most other things can be stored on the hard drive--the computer's big storage facility.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the program disc or download the program from the Internet.

    • 2

Save the program in the "Programs" folder on the hard drive. The hard drive is normally named "C:".

    • 3

Open the "Programs" folder and double-click on the program to start the installation wizard.

    • 4

Create the program's folder. The default destination is normally the "Programs" folder on the hard drive, but if it's not, make it that folder. Click on "Next" to continue with the installation.

    • 5

Open the "Programs" folder to ensure that the folder for the program you installed is there. If it is, you've installed the program on your hard drive.
