How to Paint Furniture Silver

Painting your existing furniture is an easy and inexpensive way to add new life to your home decor. For a different look, try painting it silver.

Things You'll Need:

  • Furniture
  • Silver spray paint (appropriate to the surface to be painted i.e. paint for plastic or wood)
  • Cardboard or an old sheet to cover your workspace

    Prep Your Furniture for Painting

  1. Step 1

    Remove large paint chips, debris or any residue on the furniture. Clean the furniture with a damp cloth and let dry before painting.

  2. Step 2

    If the furniture can be disassembled and reassembled easily, for a more professional look, take the furniture apart to paint the pieces individually.

  3. Step 3

    Per the spray paint instructions, begin painting the furniture. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the application process and dry time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with painting only the top or base of a table for an interesting look. Use stencils or different types of spray paint, such as crackling, matte or glossy finishes.
  • Try painting smaller pieces of furniture first, painting an entire dining room table may be overwhelming. Use your best judgment and inspiration from magazines.
