How to Make Noodles Using a Pasta Maker

There are several types of pasta makers on the market. Some are manually operated while others are powered by electricity, being either stand-alone machines or attachments for popular kitchen center appliances. The one thing that all pasta makers have in common is they have accessories called "dies" which will form different types of pasta. Making noodles using a pasta maker is a simple process when the correct die is attached.

Things You'll Need:

  • Pasta machine
  • Noodle recipe
  • Sharp knife

    For a Electric Pasta Maker

  1. Step 1

    Set up the pasta maker using the desired die according to manufacturer's instructions. If the pasta maker attaches to your kitchen center appliance, be sure that all connections are secure.

  2. Step 2

    Prepare the noodle recipe according to the directions.

  3. Step 3

    Turn on the machine to make sure the unit is functioning correctly.

  4. Step 4

    Feed the noodle dough into the pasta maker through the feeder shoot on the machine.

  5. Step 5

    Place one hand under the extrusion outlet to catch the pasta as it feeds though the machine.

  6. Step 6

    Use a sharp knife to cut the noodles to the desired length after they have been extruded.

  7. Using a Manual Machine

  8. Step 1

    Prepare your pasta dough according to recipe instructions.

  9. Step 2

    Secure the manual pasta maker to a counter or tabletop using the supplied clamp that came with the machine. Lock the handle into the proper place to engage the rollers on the machine.

  10. Step 3

    Use a sharp knife to cut the prepared dough into approximately 2 to 3 inch cubes.

  11. Step 4

    Set the roller adjustment on the pasta machine to the highest number.

  12. Step 5

    Feed the cubes though the rollers, one at a time.

  13. Step 6

    Change the roller adjustment to the next lower number and run each pasta dough section through the machine. Continue doing this until the noodle dough has reached the desired

    Use a sharp knife to cut the rolled dough into the size of flat noodles desired.

  15. Step 8

    Move the handle to the die section of the machine if making spaghetti, linguini or other formed pasta. Feed the rolled dough, one section at a time, through the die to create the desired shapes.

Tips & Warnings
  • A simple dough recipe for flat noodles is 1 cup flour, 1 egg yoke, 1 teaspoon salt and water. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough forms a workable ball similar to bread dough.
