1
Use a paint sprayer or extended roller to paint the ceiling of the room a pale blue color. Once the ceiling it completely dry, paint white clouds into the sky space. This can be done by hand or by spray painting wispy sections of white paint over the top of the blue.
-
2
Tape around door and window sections to prevent getting wall paint onto those areas. Use painter's tape for this purpose to ensure it won't stick to the walls.
-
-
3
Paint the room walls with a basic neutral color like off white or beige using paint rollers and brushes. Make certain the color is uniform and just meets, but does not lap over into, the ceiling or floor space.
-
4
Use a sponge painting technique on three of the four neutral walls. Dip a sponge lightly into a brown paint color, wiping any excess off on the edge of the paint tray. Then lightly press the sponge onto small sections of the wall at a time. Repeat and continue until all of the walls are sponged with the brown. Once that is dry, repeat the same technique using green paint. Continue the process until the design mimics the thick overgrowth of a jungle background.
-
5
Draw a large tree at one corner of the remaining wall. This can be drawn freehand or an overhead projector can be used to project the shape onto the wall so that it can be outlined in pencil. Paint in the tree. Add foliage to it using the same sponge technique used on the remaining walls.
-
6
Add safari animals like monkeys, lions, zebras, elephants, tigers and the like to the wall to create a jungle mural. Draw them by hand or project them using the same overhead project technique outline in Step 5. Be certain that the outlined shapes are sufficiently detailed for ease in painting.
-
7
Paint in flowers and other jungle vegetation, using the same techniques outlined above, to complete the mural. Be sure to let each color dry thoroughly before overlaying it with another color.
-
8
Use various sizes and shapes of paintbrushes to create blades of grass. Begin at the bottom of the wall base and work upward, carrying the grass slightly up and over the tree, animals and other vegetation to make it look more authentic.
-
9
Add birds onto the wall as well as the ceiling to finish off the mural. Use the same techniques outlined in Step 5 above. Let some of the birds spill over from the ceiling onto the wall space to unite the two areas together.
-
10
Remove all tape from the walls. Touch up areas that require it, using the colors and designs chosen.
