Instructions

    • 1

Check to see if the end of the garden hose has a correctly sized washer down inside the threads that screws onto the outdoor spigot. The washer will create a tight seal between the threads, preventing the water from going places you do not want.

    • 2

Use a sharp knife to cut out any leaking holes that may have developed in the length of the rubber material. You may want to make sure that you cut the hose in a slick even cut that is not jagged. This will allow for a tight fit in the garden hose coupler.

    • 3

Use the Phillips head screwdriver and remove both crimp connector ends on either side of the male inset coupler. You will want to be sure that you have the correct sized couple as garden hoses do come in three different sizes that range from ½ inch, 5/8 inch and the largest at ¾ of an inch in diameter.

    • 4

Insert the male ends into the two pieces of the cut garden hose. Using the screwdriver and the two-crimp connectors, install the plastic cover over the ends of the coupler by tightening the screws. Be sure to tighten the screws with even pressure on both sides so you do not kink the crimp connector at an angle. Even pressure on the screw connector will create a tight seal.

Install the hose on the spigot and test the hose for leaks by installing a spray head nozzle and allowing the hose to pressurize.

Tips & Warnings

  • Garden hose washers can be purchased at a favorite garden center store or big box store. It is always a good idea to keep a number of garden hose washers on hand. A properly sealed hose will help to conserve water.
