How to Use Vitamin E Oil on Skin

As a supplement, vitamin E--an antioxidant known as tocopherol--can help boost your immune system, protect your body against certain types of cancer and even supports brain function. Yet vitamin E oil can do more for you. It can be used topically to soothe skin and aid in healing. When purchasing the oil, make sure you are really getting vitamin E oil and not soybean or corn oil. Sometimes the packaging can be misleading. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Using Vitamin E Oil

    • 1

Use vitamin E oil to help reduce the appearance of scars when new scars are forming. Important note: Do not use on fresh injuries. Wait until the skin has sealed over with a pink, new scar. Whether your scar is from a bad cut or from surgery, you can use vitamin E oil. Again, even if it is a surgical scar, you must wait until the skin has healed over. (If you still have stitches or staples, it is too soon.) Your doctor will tell you when to start using the oil to help the skin heal so that the scar is nearly invisible.

    • 2

Use vitamin E on your lips as you would any anti-chapping balm. Vitamin E will keep your lips smooth and helps prevent cold sores.

    • 3

Use vitamin E oil on your face--but only if you do not have oily skin. Vitamin E oil can be used to moisturize your skin while it helps plump out small wrinkles, such as crow's feet or lines around the mouth. Mostly, it will soothe dry skin.

    • 4

Lightly rub vitamin E oil on minor or mild sunburns to soothe and help heal them. Vitamin E will help repair some of the damage done by the sun's rays. For a minor burn, a couple of days' treatment should be sufficient.
For added relief, also use some aloe vera on your burn.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use vitamin E oil (or any oily substance) on acne. If you have acne and dry skin, you should get a dermatologist recommended moisturizer.
