How to Make a Handmade Card With a Glass Painting
Creating handmade cards is an art form that expresses your creativity while sending a special message to the recipient. You can easily incorporate a glass painting into your handmade card even if you're not an artist. Find a picture you'd like to recreate, and trace it onto the glass. Follow a few simple instructions, and turn your painting into a handmade card that will surely be a keepsake for your friends and family.

- Glass
- Glass paints
- Grease pencil or permanent marker
- Artist brush
- Copper tape
- Card stock
- Scissors and straight edge
- Pen
- Craft glue

Purchase a frame with glass the same size as the card you'd like to make at your local dollar store. The style of the frame is irrelevant; you only need the glass insert. You can find the remaining items necessary for this project at your local hobby shop.

Paint the glass with glass paints. Tracing any picture or portion of a picture that you like onto the glass is easy. Place the glass on top of the picture; trace the outline with a grease pencil, which is easily removed, or a thin-lined permanent marker that will remain on the glass as part of your picture. Bake the completed painting according to the manufacturer's instructions. Let it cool completely before continuing.

Wrap the perimeter of the glass painting in copper tape to finish the edges of the glass. Copper tape is used to make stained glass, and it comes in several different colors and widths.

Select a color of card stock that will complement the painting, and cut the width to fit the size of the glass and the length double the height of the glass. Fold the card in half, and write your message on the inside.

Unfold the card, and glue the glass to the front of the card with strong craft glue. E6000 is a good choice for this project. Let the glue dry before folding the card back into place.
