Food dye is one of those substances that spells trouble for any object that comes into direct contact with it, such as carpet. But it's fairly simple to fix this.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Club soda
  • Soft clean cloth
  • Sponge
  • Dishwasher detergent
  • Vacuum cleaner
  1. Step 1

Mix 1/2 cup lukewarm water with 2 tsp. club soda.

  2. Step 2

Dip a clean sponge into the mixture and blot the stained area. Be careful not to soak the carpet. Blot up any excess water with a soft clean dry cloth.

  3. Step 3

Apply a thin layer of dishwasher detergent. Make sure it's not the kind with bleach. This may be harmful to colorful carpeting.

  4. Step 4

Scrub detergent gently into the carpet with a clean, damp cloth.

  5. Step 5

Use a clean, damp sponge and warm water to rinse the area. Blot up the detergent and rinse out the sponge. Continue doing so until there is no more detergent.

  6. Step 6

Allow the carpet at least an hour to dry, and vacuum the area well.

Tips & Warnings
  • A mixture of 1/4 cup vinegar and 1 cup lukewarm water is an effective alternative to dishwasher detergent.
  • Make sure the carpet dries completely, or mold may form.
