How to Obtain a Foot Print From a Birth Certificate
Baby footprints are popular additions to baby gifts and crafts. To get a high quality footprint copy, the best method is scanning and sharpening with a quality photo processing program. This process is fast and easy, with only a few steps to clear results.

Obtain the birth certificate from the person's birth city. Most United States municipalities store certificates in the county Hall of Records or city archives. Check with city regulations for complete rules and restrictions pertaining to copies.

Once you've obtained a new copy of the birth certificate, use a scanner to make a digital copy of the footprints. Set the scanner for a high-quality scan in color for the sharpest image. Select the option to "Save Image on Clipboard."

Open a new file in the photo manipulation program of your choice.

In the new document, press Ctrl-V to paste the image into the document.

Once the footprints have been pasted into the document, use filter tools to modify and sharpen the image. Useful commands are "Sharpen," which will refine the lines of the image, "Rotate," and "Contrast" for darkening and lightening.

When you're satisfied with the image, save the file as a JPEG image. Select the .jpeg file type from the pull-down menu at the bottom of the "Save As" box. Press "OK" to save the file.
