Putting on fiber drywall tape is essential for seams and corners when installing drywall. Fiber drywall tape is a better alternative to paper drywall tape because it will not tear or buckle when installing. Following the proper steps will ensure a successful installation of your fiber drywall tape.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fiber drywall tape
  • Joint compound
  • Putty knife
  1. Step 1

Apply a thin layer, about 1/8 inch, of joint compound to the joint.

  2. Step 2

Roll out the fiber drywall tape and place it evenly over the joint.

  3. Step 3

Press the tape into the joint compound with your putty knife.

  4. Step 4

Apply joint compound over the fiber drywall tape with your putty knife until covered. Allow to dry (usually 24 hours).

  5. Step 5

Apply up to 4 more coats of joint compound, feathering it out each time to blend it into the drywall.
