How to Use a Lathe Duplicator

A lather duplicator makes it possible to create the same projects on your lathe. You can produce identical furniture legs and upgrade to professional furniture or turn out a set of banister dowels all in the same pattern. It's indispensable for large scale projects and an absolute must for projects that require several identical pieces.

Instructions

    • 1

Carefully set up your lathe duplicator to the length and width requirements of your project.

    • 2

Insert your wood piece into the lathe and tighten the chuck.

    • 3

Loosen the duplicator chuck or vice and insert the piece of wood, dowel or other item you would like to duplicate. Set it perfectly straight with the contour you want to transfer to the wood facing the duplicator tracer pin.

    • 4

Check to be sure you have the correct blade attached to your duplicator and then pull back the duplicator handle.

    • 5

Turn on the wood lathe and begin cutting by pushing the blade handle towards the lathe. As you cut the duplicator pin will get closer to the duplicator piece, until it rests against it.

    • 6

Trace the duplicator piece with the cutter handle, cutting the wood in the lathe as you go. In this way you will turn an identical project on your lathe.
