A car subwoofer is often sold as a "component" subwoofer--that is, it comes by itself, with no enclosure or box. This is because there are many different sizes of subwoofer enclosures, to match different amounts of room in different cars. When you have purchased a subwoofer and an enclosure, it is necessary for you to hook up and mount the subwoofer properly in the subwoofer enclosure. This isn't a difficult job. It requires a few simple tools and a bit of basic knowledge.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Find the piece of speaker wire that is in your subwoofer box. This speaker wire is connected to a terminal cup that allows you to connect speaker wire coming from your amplifier to terminals on the outside of the box. It is necessary for you to connect the speaker wire leads in the box to your subwoofer.

  2. Step 2

Loosen the speaker wire terminals of the subwoofer with your screw driver. Note which one is marked "+," and connect the red wire in your subwoofer enclosure to it. Slide the bare wire at the end of the lead under the screw and tighten down.

  3. Step 3

Slide the bare wire at the end of the black wire underneath the "-" terminal and tighten down.

  4. Step 4

Place the subwoofer, back side first, into the opening of the box. The subwoofer will slide in and stop when the rim of the speaker hits the outside of the box. Hold the subwoofer in place (an assistant is useful here).

  5. Step 5

Screw the subwoofer into the box. There will be a set of openings for screws in the rim of the subwoofer. Insert a screw through each and tighten down. You may need to drill a small pilot hole with your drill to make starting the screw easier. When the subwoofer is securely screwed into the box, you are all done.
