A power miter saw is a very handy tool to have around your house. It is used strictly for cutting very straight lines into boards that are usually no wider than 4 inches. Set the power miter saw on a flat surface like the floor, or a table that is wide enough to accommodate the entire base of the saw. If you set it on a table, make sure that the electric cords are out of the way so you don't trip on them and drag the saw to the floor.

Plug in the power miter saw to an electrical outlet. Most models run from a standard wall outlet, very few (if any) require an industrial outlet).

Lift the power saw blade into the upright position. It will remain at about a 45 degree angle from the base of the unit.

Slide a board under the blade and position it so that it is flush against the back guide of the power miter saw. This guide is truly level and squared with the blade when it is locked in the center position. It will give your a true 90 degree cut.

Unlock the safety mechanism and power on the saw by pressing the "Cut" button.

While the blade is spinning, grasp the saw arm handle and lower the blade, cutting through the blade.

Unlock the adjustment mechanism, and move the blade to any other angle by pushing it sideways. In this manner you can make 45 degree cuts, or cut at any other angle.
