Keeping your scalp clean and your hair nourished with a homemade shampoo will promote strong hair and encourage growth. Making a hair conditioner will protect hair from drying out and becoming brittle. Learning how to make your own shampoos and conditioners gives you the ability to know exactly what is going on your hair so there is no danger of harsh chemicals that can damage hair and clog hair follicles.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mild liquid soap
  • Glycerin
  • Water
  • Borax powder
  • Egg
  • Plain gelatin
  • Water
  • Lemon juice

How to Make Shampoos and Conditioners

  1. Step 1

Combine half a cup of mild liquid soap, half a cup of glycerin, one cup of pure water and one fourth cup of borax powder. Pour into a clean bottle. Shampoo will be thin at first, so allow it to set overnight to thicken.

  2. Step 2

After the mixture has set overnight, beat a raw egg until it's smooth. Pour it into the shampoo bottle containing the mixture and shake gently.

  3. Step 3

For a nourishing hair conditioner, pour one package of gelatin into one fourth cup of warm water. Stir until the gelatin has completely dissolved.

  4. Step 4

In a separate bowl, beat one egg into two tablespoons of lemon juice. Combine all ingredients into a clean bottle.

  5. Step 5

To use, pour shampoo into your palm and rub hands together to create a lather before applying to the scalp and hair. Rinse with cool water. Apply an ample amount of conditioner to distribute evenly throughout your hair. Also rinse conditioner with cool water. Dry and style hair as usual.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always massage your scalp for at least one minute when shampooing your hair to increase circulation and stimulate growth.
  • Refrigerate both shampoo and conditioner and discard after one week. Do not use hot water when rinsing your hair or the egg will scramble.
