How to Kick a Football 50 Yards
Kicking a football 50 yards is difficult. That distance is half-way down a football field. Even professional football kickers sometimes propel the ball less than 50 yards. It all depends on weather conditions, field conditions, pressure from the defense and the performance of the kicker. There are three ways to kick a football: kicking off a tee, punting and placekicking.

1
Kick off a tee. This is the easiest way since the ball is stationary and you have as much time as you need to set up for your kick. Take a five-step drop along a 60-degree angle to the football. Build up as much speed as you can as you approach the football. Step about one foot past the football with your plant leg, and lean back as you snap your kicking leg through the football. Transfer the momentum of your speed into the football. The faster your body and leg are traveling, the farther the football will go.

Kick by punting. Catch the football with both hands when it is hiked from the center. Adjust the football so that the strings face up as you take two steps forward. Drop the football flat so that the fat part of the ball impacts your foot. This allows the football to store the most energy from the kick. Point your toe as you swing your kicking leg through. This propels the football in a nice spiral so that it soars through the air like a bullet.

Placekick the football 50 yards for a field goal. This is the most difficult way to kick a football 50 yards. Most high school kickers and some college kickers cannot kick a 50-yard field even under ideal conditions. The technique is similar to kicking off a tee, except you only have time for three steps, and the defense is trying to get you. Build as much speed as possible in your three steps. Start moving before your holder has positioned the ball. Timing is important. Kick at a low angle. This will make the football travel lower but farther. Unfortunately, it also increases the likelihood that your kick will be blocked.

Work on technique. To kick a football 50 yards you need good mechanics. Kickers do not need to be big, but they must kick the football perfectly. If your kicks are not traveling 50 yards, work on the point of impact. The side opposite the strings should strike the foot diagonally from inside your big toe to the outside of your heel. The football should be kicked as early in the kicking motion as possible to get the most out of the swinging leg.

Build strength once you have sound technique. Kickers must be all-around athletes. A strong leg alone will not move a football 50 yards. You must also have a strong hips, back and core. Lift weights and build muscle all over your body. It will translate to more yards per kick.
