Instructions

    • 1

From your friends, choose a few contests to compete against each other in the kitchen. These contests will test their cooking abilities; they can compete to see who can chop an onion the fastest, who can identify foods when blindfolded, or who can make the best dish out of the same ingredients.

    • 2

Give each contestant an onion and a knife to chop with. Tell them when to start chopping and see who can finish chopping the onion first.

    • 3

Blindfold each of the contestants and give them five different food items to taste; this is based on a contest that is commonly used on the Hell's Kitchen reality show. Try using parsnips, hamburger, salmon, mushrooms, and papaya.

    • 4

Give each contestant a sheet of paper and a pencil. Direct them to write down what they think each item is in order. Collect the sheets of paper and award one point for each correct answer. Ties are possible, or you can score each team, with each team having a score based on the scores of their individual team members.

    • 5

Conduct the third and final cooking contest by having each contestant create a dish with common ingredients. Some of these items could include onions, tomatoes, chicken, green peppers, lemons, limes, and pasta, along with a variety of spices and seasonings. Allow each contestant to have 20 minutes to prepare their dish.

    • 6

Select three people at your party that did not participate in the cooking contest. Have them sample each of the items prepared, without knowing who prepared the dish. Between the three judges, they need to come up with one winner.

    • 7

Present awards for the winners of each of the three contests such as cooking seasonings, marinades, sauces or gift certificates that you purchase ahead of time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make an evening of the party. Have food prepared for a meal set out in a buffet setting to entertain people as they watch others participating in the contests.

  • The cooking contest can be difficult to pull off with each contestant having to cook their dish. Limit the contestants to three. This way each contestant will have the kitchen for 20 minutes, and then the next contestant will have their turn.
