How to Design a Home Office Space
Perhaps you have decided to telecommute on a part-time basis to save money on gas and help the environment. On the other hand, maybe you have started your own business and will be solely working from home. No matter the reason, you now need to design and set up a home office space. Even if you will be working in your pajamas, you need an area that provides efficiency, ergonomic features and---perhaps most importantly---organization.

1
Select a view based on your personality. If an occasional peek outside allows a brief break that boosts your productivity, place the desk facing a window. If, however, you are easily distracted, consider a plainer set-up.

2
Consider your connections. If your home is equipped with wireless Internet, the computer can go just about anywhere. For wired access, though, the desk should go as close to the connections as possible to avoid long wires throughout the room.

3
Include storage options. Even the most computerized home office will require at least one file cabinet for receipts, reports and more. Another area in which to store office supplies will help you stay organized, as well.
-
4
Add lighting. Task lighting, such as a desk lamp, aids reading and writing. Whole room lighting provides overall light for meetings, filing and more.
-
5
Choose a desk and chair that provides the most comfortable seating possible. Set with hands on the keyboard and note if your shoulders feel hunched or if you have to stretch. To complete the work you need to do, it is crucial that you feel comfortable.
