How to Clean Pool Table Felt
Not only is your pool table a place for fun and entertainment, but it's also a fine piece of furniture, worthy of showing off. Like any other piece of furniture, though, it needs a little maintenance to offset the amount of use you put it through. Whether you've spilled something on it or you just want to rid your table of lint, the steps below will help you keep your pool table felt clean and looking like new.
Things You'll Need
- Pool table broom (or brush)
- White, absorbent rag
- Warm water
- Felt cleaner
Instructions

Regular Cleaning and Dusting
-
1
Brush your pool table's rails with quick, short strokes. If you do not do this after every day of play, it should be done at least once per week.
-
2
Work from the center of the table to brush any debris on your pool table felt outward toward a corner pocket. Do this in all directions from the center. Brush with short, firm strokes.
-
-
3
Give your table's felt one last brushdown by working from one end of the table to the other to pick up any missed lint, chalk or dirt.
-
4
Vacuum your pool table felt with a hand vacuum. Use the corner (smallest) attachment to go over the rails. Attach the small brush to vacuum the rest of the table. Vacuum out the pockets, also.
Stains
-
5
Pick up any spills by using a white, absorbent rag. Place the rag on top of the felt and let it soak up as much of the spill as possible. You may want to blot the spill area, but never rub it.
-
6
Dampen your rag with warm water to remove any stain.
-
7
Apply a specially formulated pool table felt cleaner if the stain persists. These are usually in the form of a foam substance that will help penetrate the stain. Follow the directions for use on the cleaner container.
-
8
Dab at the stain with a white, clean rag.
-
9
Allow the foam to dry. Repeat Steps 3 through 5 if the stain remains.
