A wall is a blank canvas. You can turn a blank wall into nearly anything you want. One of the best ways to create a striking and dramatic look in any room is with the use of metal wall decorations. A metal piece can serve as a focal point, centering the eye as a visitor walks in. A metal wall decoration can also serve to highlight other aspects of the room's décor, such as an intricate marble mantelpiece or lofty high ceiling.

From Quick Guide: Wall Decorations 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a pair of well sharpened scissors to cut out a circle measuring 15 inches in diameter from a piece of aluminum. You can also have a local home supply store do this for you.

  2. Step 2

Using a hammer, lightly tap the sides of the circle to give it texture; a few strokes should be sufficient. You can also use small chains or a key to give the circle different finishes.

  3. Step 3

Trace five small evenly spaced holes on the metal surface with washable markers. Poke five holes in the middle of the metal circle with the ends of a pair of scissors or a metal screwdriver. The holes should be 2/3-inch in diameter. Tap down any sharp edges of the holes with a hammer. Wash off traces of the marker with water.

  4. Step 4

Cut out five pieces of metal into rectangular shapes about 10 inches long and 3 inches in diameter. Hammer out the edges of the metal shapes so that no sharp edges remain when you run your finger over them.

  5. Step 5

Glue the five aluminum metal pieces 1/2-inch in front of the holes so that the holes make a clockwise pattern. You may also take them to a local home supply store and get them soldered to the circle at minimal cost.

  6. Step 6

Cut out a circle of metal 5 inches diameter. Gently hammer the edges of the metal circle smooth. Find the middle of the circle with measuring tape and mark it with a washable marker. Glue or have the smaller circle soldered to the center of the larger metal circle.

  7. Step 7

Solder or glue a wall hanger to the back of the metal wall hanger so that you can hang it on the wall easily. Check the package to see how much weight the hangers will bear.

Tips & Warnings
  • Good places to find low cost metal items are scrap yards, yard sales and home supply stores. You may also want to call up local building contractors and ask if they have materials they aren't using. You can also scout the neighborhood on bulk pick up day and recycle materials people leave out for pick up. You need not ask permission to take items. Use different shades of metal to add contrast and color to your metal wall decoration.
