1
Warm up the engine to speed up the process of draining the oil. This will also stir up any particles in the oil so that when it is drained, it will clean out the oil pan better. Take the bike for a quick ride or let it idle for a few minutes before starting your oil change.
-
2
Remove the skid plate. There are six bolts holding it on. Although it's not absolutely necessary to remove it, it will make for a cleaner oil change and prevent oil goop from getting stuck in the crevasses.

Drain the crank case oil into the drip pan once the oil pan has completely drained. The plug is adjacent to where the shifter comes out of the transmission.
-
5
Remove the oil filter. This can be done by hand and should be reinstalled by hand. Make sure you put a coating of fresh oil on the replacement filter's gasket for a proper seal. Screw it back on.

6
Reinstall the drain bolts on the oil pan and crank case, and refill with 2 qts. of oil. Fire up the bike for 30 seconds and then check the oil level. Add more oil if needed.
