How to Waterproof a Block Wall Basement

Waterproofing your block basement wall will provide a proper home environment. Water seeping through the walls of your basement can cause structural damage and enable mold to grow. This can be dangerous to your health and also costly due to structural repairs. Waterproofing is an easy step that can be done before it is too late.

Things You'll Need

• Hydraulic cement
• SunnyDry or DryLok waterproofing paint
• Masonry paint brush

Instructions

1. Patch any large holes in the basement block wall with hydraulic cement. Simply push the cement into the cracks and crevices, making sure to pack and seal. Work quickly since the cement rapidly becomes hard. Doing this step will seal the holes and cracks from the water leaks. Allow the cement to dry before proceeding (usually 24 hours).

2. Paint the block walls with SunnyDry or DryLok paint. Using your masonry brush, stroke in any direction to cover the wall completely with paint. Allow to dry at least 12 hours.

3. Cover the wall with a second coat of paint to ensure a good layer of water protection or until you no longer see the pigment in the brick and there is a thick layer of paint on the brick.
