How to Troubleshoot Windows Error 1706
Error 1706 appears when trying to use a program and Windows is unable to find the source files. These files are normally .MSI files. It is often seen when using a feature of Microsoft Office that was not installed or set to install on first use. The error message usually looks like this: Error 1706: No valid source could be found for product.

Close all open error messages.

Insert the CD for the program being used (for example, Office 2000).

Start the program or try to use the feature that caused the error message.

Wait as Windows installer locates the needed files and automatically begins the installation process.

Navigate on the CD for the provided file name if prompted for a file. Select it, and click OK. This should only happen if Windows installer cannot find the file.

Tips & Warnings
This error can also happen when using programs that were installed from a network drive or share. If that is the case, skip step 2 and search on your network drive for the needed file.

What if you downloaded an installer for a program online and ran the installation on ur pc? How do u fix that since there's no cd but the error is still coming up?
