After regular use, a Mac Book Pro exterior will start to show a bit of wear and tear, and the keyboard is no exception. Though the keyboard is a sensitive part of the computer, with patience, you can keep it looking almost as good as new by cleaning it on a regular basis.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Damp cleaning cloth
  • Toothbrush
  • Cotton swabs
  • Can of compressed air
  1. Step 1

Power down the laptop and unplug it from the wall to make sure that is not hooked up to any type of power supply.

  2. Step 2

Use the cleaning cloth that comes with the Mac Book Pro to wipe the surface of the keys. Use pressure, but don't push too hard.

  3. Step 3

Use a dry toothbrush or cotton swab to remove dust and residue from around the keys.

  4. Step 4

Use a can of compressed air along with the toothbrush or cotton swab to help release any stubborn areas of dirt.

  5. Step 5

Rub the surface of the keys again using a damp cleaning cloth to dislodge the dirt that the compressed air helped to loosen.

  6. Step 6

Examine the keyboard for any spots where the first round of cleaning was not successful. Go over those areas again using the toothbrush, cotton swab, compressed air and cleaning cloth.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's best not to risk the life of the MacBook Pro by spraying or applying any type of liquid directly to the keys. If you must use liquid, make sure it is water and only use a damp cloth that is not dripping with water. Using liquid on the keys or anywhere on the surface of the laptop could cause it to stop working and also harm anyone touching it at the time. Once the keyboard area is clean, consider shielding it from dirt with a silicone or plastic keyboard cover.
