Many users are looking for alternatives from Internet Explorer. However, installing an alternate browser doesn't remove Internet Explorer from your system. Some programs use Internet Explorer by default, even if you have another browser set as your main browser. You can easily disable Internet Explorer in a few steps. Another reason you may want to disable Internet Explorer is to prevent anyone from browsing the Internet while on your computer. Whether you want a new browser or need to prevent Internet access, you can disable Internet Explorer in Windows XP.

Instructions

Go to "Start -- Control Panel -- Add/Remove Programs."

    • 2

      Choose "Add/Remove Windows Components."

    • 4

Wait for the process to complete, then exit Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel.

    • 5

Go to "My Computer" and copy the following into the address bar: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer."
