If you are planning a vacation in Hawaii you may be wondering how to dress Hawaiian style. Dressing for a Hawaiian vacation is quite simple because the Hawaiian lifestyle is very relaxed and laid back. Comfort is the main goal in the clothing styles and choices of Hawaiians.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hawaiian floral shirt (for men)
  • Shorts or dress pants (for men)
  • Floral blouses (for women)
  • Shorts, skirts, or dress pants (for women)
  • Muumuus (for women)
  • Sandals or flip flops
  • Floral lei
  1. Step 1

Choose brightly colored Hawaiian shirts with shorts for men. Leave the Hawaiian shirt untucked. For a slightly more formal attire, pants would be appropriate. Men never wear ties in Hawaii under any circumstance---period.

  2. Step 2

Select pretty floral blouses and dresses for women. Pair the blouses with either shorts, a skirt, or pants according to your taste and desire. Women also enjoy wearing muumuus for more formal occasions in Hawaii.

  3. Step 3

Wear sandals or flip flops that are easily removed. This is because Hawaiians do not wear shoes inside their homes and so shoes must always be removed and left by the doors when entering a home. Never wear socks with sandals or flip flops.

  4. Step 4

Add a sweet-smelling floral lei if you are attending a special event or going out on the town. There are almost an infinite variety of leis to choose from. Women's leis generally are made from predominantly flowers and men's leis generally are made more from vines and greenery.
