How to Use an Electric Griddle to Cook Italian Sausage

When warm weather hits, people begin to think about summer foods. One of those foods is Italian sausage served with peppers and onions on a fresh baked roll. While it may still be too cold to fix this delicious treat on the grill, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. An electric griddle is a wonderful way to cook hot dogs and sausages. In a matter of minutes, you can prepare Italian sausages to feed a crowd. Best of all, you won't have to bare the elements to do so. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Heat the electric griddle to medium heat. Italian sausages are rather large, so you'll want to avoid high heat. Instead, cook the sausages on medium heat so that the outside and inside get done at the same time. Most electric griddles will have a light that lets you know when the griddle is up to heat.

    • 2

Prick the skins of the sausages so the grease can escape. Italian sausages can contain a lot of fat. By pricking the skin, you ensure that the grease ends up in the electric griddle's grease trap rather than your arteries. This will also help the skin crisp up as the sausages cook.

    • 3

Arrange sausages on the griddle. In order to cook the most sausages at one time, you will want to place the sausages in rows with the sausages all facing the same way. Be careful not to get the sausages too close, though, or it will be hard to get the skin to crisp up.

    • 4

Cook for 10 minutes and turn over. It should take around 10 minutes for the sausages to cook halfway through. You can tell when the sausages are cooked halfway through because they will turn gray halfway up the sides once it's ready to flip.

    • 5

Continue to cook for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until cooked through. You can leave the sausages on the griddle longer if you want to crisp up the skins even more.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can cook green peppers and onions on the griddle once the sausages are removed, and they will have extra flavor from the drippings.

  • When cooking a large amount of sausage, be sure to empty the grease trap so that it doesn't overflow.
