1
Select an online petition site. There are plenty of free sites, such as Petition Spot and Petition Online. This will be how you get your petition on the Web.
-
2
Provide your contact information. Some sites allow anonymous petitions, but most require you to provide at least your name and email address. You will also create a password for your petition.
-
-
3
Create your petition. Your petition will need a title that summarizes its point, such as "Stop NASCAR from Wasting Fuel." You'll also need to write a statement that tells people what you are trying to accomplish with your petition. Tell people the point of the petition and why it's important.
-
4
Categorize or tag your petition. You may be linking to your petition from another site, but if you want people who care about your cause to find your petition through searches, tag the petition with applicable right terms, such as NASCAR, fuel and environment.
-
5
Decide on your signature requirements. You will decide whether your petition will display the signatures or hide them; whether people need to include addresses, comments, and other information; and who is eligible to sign the petition. Your petition may only be relevant to people who live in a certain state, for instance.
-
6
Double-check and submit your petition. Most petition sites will not allow you to alter the petition once it is submitted, since people may have already signed it. So ensure it is exactly the way you want it to be before submitting it.
