When an iPod becomes unresponsive, our first reaction can be pure panic. The cost of the iPod and the advanced technology that goes with it makes us see dollar signs. There are a couple of steps you can try at home to fix an unresponsive iPod before sending it out for repair. They are relatively simple, and as long as you follow them, it will help you make the determination of whether your iPod needs a professional, or if it simply needs to be reset or restored. This procedure will only work on iPod models with a click wheel.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the "Hold" button on the iPod to make sure it is not set in the "Hold" position. This will make the iPod appear unresponsive when it is actually just on "Hold."

    • 2

Move the "Hold" switch to the on position and then to the off position several times.

    • 3
Apple logo that will appear on iPod screen.

Press the "Play/Pause" button and the center button or "Menu" button (depending on the model) at the same time. Continue holding them down for 10 seconds or until the "Apple" logo appears on the iPod screen. Repeat this step up to three times if the iPod still does not respond.

    • 4

Wait for the "Main Menu" screen to appear after the "Apple" logo appears, then you can continue to use your iPod as it is now responding.
