String a Lacrosse Stick Head

Lacrosse has been played for hundreds of years and throughout its history, the equipment has evolved. Although the modern stick is technologically advanced and is made of plastics and nylon strings, the basic concept is the same--a stick with a net on top. Stringing a stick is easy and can be customized to the players style and desired look. Rather than taking it to a sports shop and spending money, do it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak your mesh in warm water over night.

    • 2

Start with the top of your stick head. Take a top string and tie a double knot at one end. Pull the string through the first hole on the top of the head seating the knot. Then take the other end of the top string and feed it through the next hole. Take your mesh and feed the top string through the front of the mesh in the second hole. Pull the end of the string through the loop on the head you just created pulling it tight. Continue this pattern across the top of the head skipping every other hole in the mesh. At the last hole, tie a double knot and cut the excess string with your scissors.

Take the sidewall string and feed it through the top of the head on the side you are stringing in the front of the mesh. Pull the string through so both sides are even. Take one side of the string and weave it through the mesh heading down until you reach the bottom of the head. Feed the string through the last hole on the side and tie a knot. Take the other string and wrap it around the woven string and through the mesh. Continue this down the side of the head pushing the string through the holes.

Finish tying the mesh to the bottom by taking a piece of top string and tying a knot on one end. Push the string through the outside hole on the bottom of the neck. Weave it through the mesh, skipping the first and last hole of the mesh. Feed the end through the last hole and tie a knot.

    • 5

Weave your throwing strings (shoe laces or leather strips) horizontally through the mesh. Make sure that the bottom strings are looser than the tops to give a good throwing velocity. Experiment on how many and what is best for your playing style.

    • 6

Cut the excess off your string ends with your scissors. Use your lighter and melt the tips of all your string ends. This will prevent fray. Grab a ball and your stick and go play some lacrosse.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your strings and mesh tight through out the entire process. Leave a few inches of string on your cuts in case you need to adjust. The depth of your pocket is adjusted with the bottom strings.
