Confidence is one of the most important traits needed in an effective soccer goalie. A goalkeeper who lacks confidence will find that his play often suffers as a result. Consequently, many goalkeepers are quirky, superstitious athletes, depending on odd rituals to help maintain their confidence in the face of tremendous pressure. Not the least of these rituals is the jersey of the goalkeeper. Unlike in most sports, a goalkeeper's jersey may not be the same jersey as the other players on his team. This give goalkeepers the latitude to design their own jersey in a manner that they deem fitting. Take advantage of this rare opportunity and create your own signature uniform piece that teams will come to recognize as supreme confidence between the pipes.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the newspapers so that they cover a large area approximately 3 by 3 feet.

    • 2

Lay the long-sleeved T-shirt on top of the newspapers, facing the front side up.

    • 3

Drizzle the fabric paint over the T-shirt in any manner you choose. Make sure you cover as much of the shirt as possible. Allow the paint to dry for at least three hours.

    • 4

Flip the shirt over when the paint has dried.

    • 5

Decorate the back of the jersey in the same manner as the front, using the fabric paint. Allow the jersey at least a day to dry before wearing.

    • 6

Cut out a number from the felt square using scissors. The most common goalkeeper number is 00.

    • 7

Glue the felt number onto the jersey using the hot-glue gun.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get creative. Use brushes or even your fingers to further enhance your goalkeeper jersey design. If you have extra felt you can also add your name to the back of the jersey.
