Helping the poor is easy when you are earning a lot of money, but when the economy turns sour, and you see your own salary begin to disappear, you can still keep helping the poor in many important ways.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Help the Poor

One of the best ways of helping the poor is to feed the hungry. Surprisingly, you don't need to have extra money to keep helping the poor in this way. On the website FreeRice (I've included the link below), you can answer vocabulary quizzes; it's just a game, and it's free to play, but for every answer you give, they send ten grains of rice to help feed the poor. The site also keeps track of how much rice you have personally donated. It's a fun way to spend some time and it is an easy way to keep helping the poor.

  2. Step 2
    Donate to Charity

Use a website like VolunteerMatch (see link below)to help find an organization which will let you volunteer your time to a good cause. It doesn't always have to cost money to be helping the poor.

  3. Step 3
    Donate Charity

Finally, you can always call a local charity, soup kitchen, or homeless shelter, and ask if they are looking for volunteers. It always feels good to help out in your own community, and helping the poor is important community work.

on 4/9/2009 What wonderful ideas! Another thing I might suggest is fasting for a day a month and donating the food you would have consumed to a homeless shelter. Great article on how to keep helping the poor in a bad economy!
