Convert MP3 to iTunes Format

Although MP3 is generally considered the standard audio format across most personal music players, Apple branded products, including the iPod, use a special type of music file known as the AAC. This format is readily accessible through Apple's iTunes media management software, and you can even use iTunes to convert your MP3 files into AAC.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • iTunes software
  1. Step 1

Make a new folder for all the files that you want to convert. It doesn't matter where you create this file, but it will be most convenient if you put it on the desktop. Then drag all the MP3 files that you need to convert into this folder.

  2. Step 2

Open the iTunes software by double-clicking on the iTunes icon. When it is open, go to the "File" menu and select "Import file." A "Browse" window will pop up.

  3. Step 3

Select the file you created in Step 1 and then click "OK." Your files will soon populate the iTunes window. Wait for this process to finish before going on to the next step.

  4. Step 4

Highlight all the MP3 files that just went into the system and then click on the "Advanced" tab at the top of the window. Go down the list until you see the "Convert Selection to AAC" option and then click on it to begin the process.

  5. Step 5

Delete duplicates. Once the process has finished, you will have two copies of each file, one MP3 and one AAC. If you want to keep them, simply highlight the files in iTunes, and click "Delete" in the list. This will delete them from iTunes, but not from your hard drive.
