How to Bridge a Car's Subwoofer Connection

Bridging the subwoofer connection in your car's audio system is a way of taking a 2-channel amplifier output and combining the amp's output to go to a single output. This is an excellent way to power a subwoofer. The connections to your car's amplifier are straightforward and easy to achieve.

Things You'll Need:

• 2-channel amplifier
• Subwoofer
• Speaker wire
• Wire cutters/strippers
• Screwdriver

1. 
    
   Amp speaker terminals (NL Graphics)

   Identify the speaker terminals of your amplifier. The speaker terminals will be on one of the ends of the amp. They'll be marked as "spkr" or "spkr output."

2. Find the two speaker terminals that are marked "bridged." Loosen these with your screwdriver.

3. Cut a length of speaker wire long enough to reach from the amplifier to the subwoofer. Strip the insulation off of each end of the wire so that each lead has ½ inch of bare wire exposed.

4. Connect one end of the speaker wire to the "bridged" speaker output terminals by slipping the wire under the screws and tightening. Be sure the positive speaker wire lead is connected to the positive terminal, and the negative to the negative.

5. Connect the other end of the speaker wire to the subwoofer terminals. Be sure the positive is connected to the positive terminal, and the negative lead to the negative terminal.
