How to Convert Cm to Mm

While the realm of metrics might be bewildering to some, it is far easier to convert a figure from one range of measurement to another in metrics than it is in the English system. Here is how to change centimeters into millimeters.

1. Let's say you had to order a length of pipe that you have measured to be 14.7 cm. However, the company you are ordering the pipe from requires your order to be placed in mm and not cm. Jot down or input into a calculator the measurement in cm.

   Multiply that figure by 10.

3. Your result will now be in mm. Jot down the answer. In the case of the pipe that measured 14.7 cm, that would equal 147 mm.

Tips & Warnings

• This procedure comes in handy when you do not have the means to measure something in mm and you need to have a figure in mm for work, school or other purposes. If you have a whole number, like 8 cm, simply add a 0 to the left of where the decimal would be. In this case, 8 cm = 80 mm. Check your answer by dividing it by 10 to see if you get your original figure.
