How to Remove Exploit Rogue Spyware

"Spyware" is a term for programs that download on your computer without your permission and cause popups and other unwanted things to happen on your desktop. The term "Rogue" can mean that the software is of unknown origin, but it can also mean that the program may install spyware on your computer, create a fake warning message about it, and then offer you an expensive program to fix it, complete with a link. The solution to removing them is using free anti-spyware software instead.

Instructions

    • 1

Download an anti-spyware program like Spybot or Ad-aware by visiting the appropriate website (See Resources). Download the program by clicking on the link offering the program.

    • 2

Install the program by double clicking on the install file that should now be on your desktop. Go through the installation process and choose where to install the program in your computer.

    • 3

Close the installation window, which should run the program for you. Click on the "Updates" button to download new update files, and then the "Scan" button in order to run a scan. Wait for the scan to finish.

    • 4

Hit the "Remove" button to remove the exploit rogue threat which could include something called "Add2Stats".

    • 5

Wait to see if the problem has been fixed. If it hasn't and you are still receiving popups, then restart your computer in safe mode. In Windows XP, this is accomplished by clicking on "Start" and selecting "Shut Down." Turn your computer on again after 30 seconds, and then hit F8 a few times until a new menu comes up. Make sure you select safe mode in the new menu.

    • 6

Try steps 3 and 4 again while in Safe Mode. This should ensure that you will be able to remove the rogue spyware before it can write itself to be reinstalled again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use free tools for removing spyware-don't let them extort you into buying a product to fix a problem they caused in the first place.

  • Never click on anything on a popup, as this will only make the problem worse.
