Draw with Prismacolor Markers

Prismacolor markers are some of the most popular markers in the world, used by everyone from beginning students in elementary art classes to professional artists. Prismacolor markers produce rich ink with a smooth flow for easy coloring and definition. Markers from Prismacolor come in a few shapes and many colors for optimal control over your work of art. The correct markers, combined with a little practice and a few different techniques, result in high-quality art with vibrant color and sharp, crisp details.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Paper to draw on
  1. Step 1

Use a pencil to draw a design you want to color. Include outlines, but don't shade anything with the pencil.

  2. Step 2

Use the thin end of the double-ended markers to color in the outlines. Most people prefer to do this outline in black, but you can experiment with any color you want. Darker colors will leave your drawing with more defined outlines.

  3. Step 3

Using the thick end of the double-ended markers, fill in any large portions of the drawing. Hold the thick end at an angle to the paper so that the entire width of the tip is coloring on the paper as you move the marker. Start with light colors, and add detail with dark colors as desired.

  4. Step 4

Add shading to the large areas by applying the same color over itself to darken the area.

  5. Step 5

Fill in smaller areas with the thin end of the double-ended markers.

  6. Step 6

Add shading and details by drawing over the previously applied color with fine-line markers. Use quick strokes next to each other for texture.

  7. Step 7

Using metallic markers, highlight any lights, flashes or points that you want to stand out.
