How to Scrapbook Birthday Cards

Scrapbooking is a sentimental way to save cards from a special birthday. Keeping your cards together in a scrapbook gives you a tangible reminder of special moments along with a chance to reminisce. The popularity of scrapbooking has brought a wide assortment of scrapbooks and page inserts to the market for any occasion. You can even use something as simple as a loose-leaf notebook, cutting the pages to fit. Instructions

    • 1

Choose a theme for the cover page. If the birthday had special significance, whether it was a 16th, 21st or 40th, you might want to find a way to design and indicate that on the first page. Either purchase a page for the occasion or design your own on the computer. List the date and location of the party along with guests' names.

    • 2

Lay out your birthday cards by design. Put cards that open to a single inner page in one pile. Put trifold cards in another pile, and cards that pull up and stretch open in a third.

    • 3

Collect other memorabilia from the birthday. Choose items that will fit on the pages of your scrapbook. You might want to include party invitations, bits of wrapping paper, photographs, restaurant napkins, ribbons or streamers or other paper collectibles.

    • 4

Lay out your scrapbook. If there are certain cards you want at the beginning, try them on the page now. Make sure cards on facing pages fit together without pulling at each other, especially those with cutout designs.

    • 5

Decide where you want to put other memorabilia before you attach your cards. You might put wrapping paper from gifts on the same page with the card from the giver. If you have notes, photographs or special reminiscences, they could be included on the same page as the card.

    • 6

Begin assembling your scrapbook. Use double-faced tape to hold the back sides of cards in place so you can open them and read them. Use four to six pieces of tape for a rectangular card, more for larger or heavier cards that open into more pages.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take a photograph of your scrapbook and include it with thank you notes to birthday guests. The gesture will let them know how much you value their friendship and their appearance at your special event.
