Getting spooky for Halloween is much more realistic if you have fake blood dripping from some of your decorations or lying in a puddle on the floor. It's simple to make fake blood with corn syrup, just don't leave it out too long or it will attract more than ghoulish screams of terror. Ants and other insects enjoy the sweetness of the syrup, so unless you're doing a remake of "The Fly," keep the fake blood in a sealed container until you need it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ½ cup of warm water
  • ¼ cup of corn starch
  • Blender or Spoon
  • 1 cup of corn syrup
  • 5 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1-2 tablespoons powdered cocoa
  1. Step 1

Mix the warm water and the corn starch until it is thoroughly blended. You can use a blender set on low or you can mix it by hand with a spoon. Make sure there are no lumps before you continue.

  2. Step 2

Slowly add the corn syrup, stirring it into the water and corn starch mixture until all three ingredients are blended smoothly. Again, set your blender on low or mix with a spoon.

  3. Step 3

Add one tablespoon of red food coloring very slowly into the mixture. Red food coloring will stain, so be careful not to let it splash on you as you mix it into the corn syrup concoction. Mix the food coloring in with a spoon. Continue adding 3 tablespoons of red food coloring, one tablespoon at a time. Blend each one thoroughly into the mixture. Your corn syrup, corn starch and water should be bright red.

  4. Step 4

Add 1 tablespoon of powdered cocoa to the red corn syrup mix. Real blood is brownish red, but it's up to you how brown or how red to make your fake blood. Alternately add the remaining tablespoon of red food coloring and powdered cocoa, stirring each one in slowly by hand until they are completely blended until you are satisfied with the results.

Tips & Warnings
  • Store the fake blood in a sealed container at room temperature.
  • The red food coloring in the fake blood will stain carpets, clothes, linoleum and wood, so be careful where you place it.
