How to Use a Computer With a Blackberry 8100
The BlackBerry 8100, otherwise known as the BlackBerry Pearl, works just fine as a cell phone and e-mail collection device, but did you know you can also connect it to your computer and use it as a portable media player and storage device? Connecting and using your BlackBerry 8100 with your computer is very practical.

Plug the small end of your mini-USB cable into the phone's charger port, and then plug the large end into your computer's USB 2.0 port. If you are unsure where the USB 2.0 port is on your computer, check your owner's manual

Wait for the computer to recognize your phone. A few windows will pop up indicating that a "mass storage device" has been detected and then you will be prompted to install a few drivers. Click through these prompts to install the necessary components. This may take a few minutes.

Go to "My Computer" and then select your phone. You should see a small phone-shaped icon that says "BlackBerry 8100" on it. When you open it you will see several folders that contain multimedia already on your phone.

Add files to your phone. Since there are already dedicated folders for music and videos, you can add these specific types of media into thier respective places. The BlackBerry 8100 accepts several video and music formats including MP3, MP4, and WAV.

Add other files. Document files as well as PDFs can be stored and viewed on your BlackBerry, but you will need to create a special folder for them. Simply click the right mouse button, select "create new folder" and then name it accordingly.

Tips & Warnings
You will have to access the BlackBerry 8100's memory card utility later on to retrieve these files as they do not have a specific program associated with them.
