How to Clean Car Windshields

After washing and detailing your entire car, there is one area that can make the difference between a super clean car, and a semi-clean car: the windshield. Washing the windshield is often one of the most forgotten, and important, parts of the car to wash. Sitting behind a dirty windshield can make the car feel dirty if you are looking at grimy, bug splattered windows. Learn how to clean car windshields and have the cleanest car around.

    Things You'll Need

    • Warm water
    • Car soap
    • Sponge
    • 00 gauge steel wool
    • Glass cleaner
    • Paper towels

        Wash the outside of the windshield with automotive soap, a sponge and warm water. This will remove dirt, grime, bug remains and anything else on the windshield. Use large, circular motions with the sponge and rinse the windshield completely.

        Spray glass cleaner on a folded paper towel and use it to wipe the inside of the windshield. You may have to do this several times to clean the whole windshield. After the cleaner dries, use a clean paper towel to buff the windshield free of streaks.

        Go over the outside of the windshield with the steel wool pad after the windshield dries. Rub in circular motions. This will remove any water spots or streaks on the glass.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Always buff glass cleaned with glass cleaner. If not buffed to rid the glass of streaks, headlights from oncoming night traffic may cause blurred and fuzzy visibility.
